Mnemonius is a mobile learning platform leveraging GSM, J2ME, and J2EE technology providing functionality that is unique in the world-wide e-learning market.

The system avoids the use of costly and non-interactive SMS functionality because text messenging is the most costly method of information exchange provided by carriers. Designing Mnemonius, we utilized GPRS transmission which allows for the efficient management of a phone's memory resources. A small local history is automatically updated according to the progress of a user. On user's request, the phone synchronizes its database with a remote central database hosting the course.

Initially Mnemonius supported the learning of foreign languages using a mobile browser (J2ME or WAP). Currently, Mnemonius is a full-featured technological platform which can support education and training on a large scale. It is particularly useful for the presentation of material to course participants who are globally distributed. The system only needs to be loaded with a database including a course and methodology. Mnemonius can be launched to subscribers of all GSM mobile networks.

The system turns a personal mobile phone into an educational tool. The users decide themselves when and how much time to devote to learning. Mnemonius utilizes many helpful educational features. For example, after every presentation of a portion of material the course taker can self-evaluate their confidence with the presented material. This evaluation determines when the information will be presented again. The lower the confidence with the material, the sooner it will be presented again. The algorithm used in the system helps ensure improved results.
